Double Fine might claim its in the style of Streets of Rage or Double Dragon, but it makes those creaky arcade hits look like models of precision and refinement. Gang Beasts offers us a completely different action game starring weak characters made of jelly that have to try to fight each other on absurd settings. In case youve managed to miss it during its three years in Early Access, or at the dozens of gaming events at which its been showcased, Gang Beasts pits a group of wobbly fighters against one another across a variety of compact arenas. In some ways, its not actually a very good gameyet its weaknesses are often the making of it. Though Gang Beasts is comfortably the funnier of the two, its similarly shoddy and annoying at times.
In that regard, its reminiscent of Coffee Stain Studios Goat Simulator. Rather than a deep or technical fighting game, its more a tool for daft, physics-led pratfalls. Nominally a multiplayer brawler, Gang Beasts could more accurately be described as a slapstick facilitator.
